It seems a lot more people have been getting debt collection notices related to old “improperly canceled” CI Host accounts.
and
I also amended my previous post - it wasn’t CI Host I talked to on the phone - it was the company that bought their “bad debt” for pennies on the dollar, Fidelity Credit Management.
If anyone knows of other people who have been receiving these debt collection letters, please post a comment.

1Just found a few more examples - looks like this is pretty widespread. I, for one, will never give Fidelity a dime.

2I received one of these notices this week, claiming I owed $44.00, and they added about $16.00 in interest.
I have never, at any time, had an account with CI Host. I called Fidelity Credit Management, and asked them what the heck this was all about. They said it was from something in 2003! As someone who pays off her bills in full every month, I was really surprised to hear this!
I told the rep at Fidelity that I will not pay until they can produce a copy of an agreement that I actually signed with CI Host. Something sounds really fishy with these guys.

3Marc, you need to check out this site on Debt Validation: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/debt_validation.shtml
Mike and I have had to deal with these kind of assholes before, and I shut them down quick with the sample letter that is linked on that website. Registered mail is your friend.

4I got a notice as well even though I cancelled their service and had paid in full. This is a disgrace and unethical on their behalf.

5Boy, I sure am glad we got rid of those SOB’s years ago Marc. What a nightmare that company is.

6Thanks for the link, Shonna - I’ve sent them a modified version of the sample letter provided there… apparently, the Statute of Limitations is long expired, so let’s see what happens

7C I Host attempts to collect overdue accounts and unpaid balances from current and cancelled customers. After exhausting all in-house collection resources, C I Host has retained a third-party collection firm, Fidelity Management. If you receive correspondence from Fidelity and you feel that this is in error, please first contact Fidelity Management at (818) 991-4220, P.O. Box 6024, Agoura Hills, CA 91376. After you have contacted Fidelity, and the issue has not been resolved to your satisfaction, you may contact C I Host at billing@cihost.com.

8Hey Marc, glad I could help out. Keep me posted and let me know what happens, but I think you won’t hear back from them again. Also, if you find this on your credit report you can sue them for it because it’s against the law (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).
